Top Ten TV Shows Of 2012

The Walking Dead1. The Walking Dead: Rick Grimes and his shrinking then expanding group of desperate survivors learned they had to deal with more than just flesh-eating walkers in this post-apocalyptic masterpiece. They also must contend with the evils of humanity represented by the Governor in this grisly, suspenseful TV show.

Fringe2. Fringe: The show wrapped up its current storylines then threw its main characters into the future in its final season to help free the world. As always, Fringe delivers some the best current sci-fi on the small screen.

BSG Blood & Chrome3. Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome: Based on what was shown online, this really would've been a great TV series if not for a Syfy network obsessed with shows about hunting ghosts.

Doctor Who4. Doctor Who: The latest season of Doctor Who featured an increasingly despondent Doctor, twisting plot lines, returning popular villains like the Daleks and the Weeping Angels, and a swan song for his popular companions.

5. Supernatural: The Winchester Brothers just can't catch a break, the show returned somewhat to its roots and delivered many excellent episodes with mysteries as to what the brothers were doing in a year-long gap. Plus, it introduced Benny the vampire.

6. Falling Skies The post-alien invasion series ramped up the suspense and the storyline in its second season as the human rebels fought against increasingly bad odds.

Revolution7. Revolution: Taking place several years after a worldwide blackout plunged society into a new Dark Age, this sci-fi show features interesting characters, fast plot developments and solid entertainment.

 

True Blood8. True Blood: Sookie Stackhouse and vampire Bill Compton went off in separate storylines that seemed to shake up the status quo in this ghoulish show.

 

 

9. Being Human: The second season of this Syfy TV show was a vast improvement that developed its endearing characters more fully and deviated from the U.K. show it's based on.

10. Game Of Thrones: Tyrion Lannister and snow zombies, 'nuff said.

Top Ten Films Of 2012

Avengers1. Marvel's The Avengers: Several years in the making, Marvel Studios pulled off an amazing feat and delivered an exciting, eye-popping superhero spectacular with strong characters who don't overshadow each other.

John Carter2. John Carter: Screw Disney's marketing! Those few who saw this immensely fun and luscious sci-fi flick saw the love and care put on the screen by director Andrew Stanton.

 

Cabin in the Woods3. The Cabin In the Woods: An ode to the horror film that utilizes many of its popular devices and conventions and turns it upside down. Its out-of-left-field plot twist midway was pure genius.

 

Spider-Man4. The Amazing Spider-Man: An unnecessary reboot for some, but nonetheless it's an amazing (pardon the pun) superhero movie that revitalizes the Spider-Man franchise.

 

Rise of the Guardians5. Rise Of The Guardians: This animated classic from Dreamworks teams up several childhood mythological characters while focusing on a whimsical Jack Frost who is the heart and soul of the film.

6. Chronicle: An unconventional super human film told in a found-footage format featured terrific characters, special effects and pathos as one of the leads disturbingly became more and more villainous.

Hunger Games7. The Hunger Games: Despite its changes from the book, this is a more than satisfying adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel of a post-apocalyptic blood sport in a future North America.

 

8. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: A welcome return to Middle Earth that is lush and full of adventure. The film ratio of 48 fps may be too much for some but it helps immerse viewers into this wondrous world of hobbits, dwarves and goblins.

9. The Dark Knight Rises: It ran too long and had plot problems but Christopher Nolan's concluding chapter in his Dark Knight trilogy had many rousing moments as Batman came out of retirement to save Gotham City.

10. Men In Black III: Had a surprising amount of emotional depth, plot development and Josh Brolin steals the film with his dead-on impersonation of a younger Agent K.
